Keep In mind:
- The manufacturers rate the Hydra Big Systems for a flow rating of 6000 to 15000 Litres per Hour (LPH), or 26 to 66 Gallons Per Minute (gpm). However, please keep in mind that these are "maximum in theory ratings" and these are typically based on " ideal" water quality and water pressure situations. In "real world" applications and situations these "ideals" are hardly ever realized. In situations where the water pressure may be low, or the turbidity/dirt level/particle concentration level may be particularly high, the maximum flow rate potential will likely be much lower. Typically in our experience in real-world situations, sediment filter systems will give anywhere between 30 to 70% of their rated maximum capacity.
- While the Hydra Big's cartridge is made to be durable and reusable, as time passes the "polyester" mesh on the filter cartridge will start to perish, allowing more and more particles/sediment through. So the Cartridge will need to be replaced over time, the exact amount of time will depend on the quality of the source water and the amount of water flowing through the unit on a regular basis. However, to give a rough estimate the cartridge should last two to three years* before needing to be replaced. Again this is just an estimation, and in some source waters where the water quality is extremely poor, the cartridge may need to be replaced more regularly.
- The Hydra's clear housing design helps to see when the filter needs to be backwashed, and replaced. However, one issue with the nature of clear plastic, is that if left in direct sunlight, algae may begin to grow, making the housing go green. This is why it is recommended that the unit is installed under some form of cover, and not exposed to direct sunlight all day long.
