    Silver Impregnated ProCarb-900 (Bacteriostatic) Carbon

The Silver Impregnated ProCarb 900 is a high-quality Granular Activated Carbon, used in the purification of potable food-grade water and industrial process liquids. The silver-impregnated ProCarb activated carbon is manufactured with silver ions mixed into the media, giving it bacteriostatic properties. Basically, what this means is that the filter cartridge and/or loose activated carbon uses the antimicrobial action of silver ions to inhibit bacterial growth within the filter, preventing biofouling and potentially extending the filter's lifespan.

Silver Impregnated ProCarb-900 series of Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) is manufactured from sustainably sourced macadamia nut shells through steam activation. The resulting high-density carbon structure with a highly developed bimodal meso- and, micro- and micro-porous structure allows for the adsorption of a range of molecular sizes, making this carbon ideal for a broad range of water treatment applications. Due to this unique structure, this premium-grade GAC bridges the gap between conventional coal and coconut carbons and may be used as an effective alternative to either. This product is ideally suited for high-end water treatment applications.

Many carbons preferentially adsorb small molecules. Iodine number is the most fundamental parameter used to characterize activated carbon performance. It is a measure of activity level (higher number indicates a higher degree of activation) often reported in mg/g (typical range 300–1200 mg/g). It is a measure of the micropore content of the activated carbon (0 to 20 Å, or up to 2 nm) by adsorption of iodine from the solution. It is equivalent to the surface area of carbon between 900 and 1100 m2/g. So essentially, the greater the Iodine Number Rating on an Activated Carbon Block, the more effectively the carbon will absorb things such as chlorine and organic molecules.
