    Complete Automated Filtration Skid System with 18" x 65" vessels


    The automatic skid-mounted filtration units have been designed to use a wide range of different combinations of filtration medias to cater for a range of different applications. These media include Crystal Sand, AFM Glass Media, Activated Carbon, Iron Removal Resin, and Water Softening Resin.

    The systems skid mount frame and PVC piping make the system an easy to install "plug and play" setup.

    Media Types 

    There are several different Filtration media that can be used with the Complete Automated Filtration Skid. Please see below some brief information on each of these medias, as well as links to some additional information on all of them. 

    Crystal Sand Filtration Media

    Crystal Sands Media is a glass-based filtration media used for removing sediment, dirt, rust, and other large particles. 

    Crystal Sands Media is designed to replace and improve upon the standard Silica Sand used in Deep Bed Sand Filter Vessels and Swimming Pool Vessels

    Crystal Sands is Eco-Friendly being made of 100% recycled crushed glass. 

    Crystal Sands is a perfect mix of grain size to optimize filtration flow and backwash fluidization. 

    AFM® Activated (Glass) Filter Media

    AFM® Activated Filter Media is a direct replacement for sand, doubling the performance of sand filters without the need for additional investments in infrastructure. AFM® resists biofouling, bio coagulation and transient wormhole channeling of unfiltered water and never needs to be recharged or replaced.

    AFM® is a highly engineered product manufactured from a specific glass type, processed to obtain the optimum particle size and shape. It is then exposed to a 3-step activation process to increase its surface area by up to 300 times for superior mechanical and electro-static filtration performance.


    Activated Carbon (GAC/UDF) 

    Granular Active Carbon (also referred to as UDF by some manufacturers and retailers) is carbon that has been treated with oxygen to make it porous, but it has also been broken up into granules to further increase the surface area for chemical bondage to occur.

    The water passes through the GAC filter, allowing the organic materials and chlorine to effectively bond with the carbon molecules, thus removing these from the water.


    Iron Removal Resin 

    The Iron removal resin works by oxidizing the dissolved iron in the water, causing it to "rust", and clump onto the surface of the ion exchange resin. This oxidized Iron (Rust) can then be flushed out of the vessel, to a drain point. 

    Please keep in mind that while a lot of the rust will be flushed out, some finer particles may remain and so additional sediment filteration may be required after the iron removal resin, to catch the remaining particles.

    Please note that the Iron Removal resin can handle a maximum iron content of 10ppm (10mg/l). 

    In situations with an iron content of 5ppm or less, the iron removal resin can handle it easily.

    With iron content of 6ppm up to 10ppm, additional filtration will be required to effectively remove all the iron in the source water. 

    Recommended Operating conditions for Resin: 

    • Maximum Iron Content - 10ppm 
    • Total Dissolved Solids - <2500ppm
    • Total Suspend Solids - <10ppm 
    • PH Level - > 6.5
    • No Chlorine or other oxidizing agents (such as ozone) present in the source water. 

    Water Softener Resin

    The Water softener is used to remove hardness (also known as calcium, lime, kalk) from the water. 

    How does the water Softener Work? 

    A water softener is an ion exchange system, which essentially means that it swaps one ion for another.

    In the case of water softener, it exchanges the hardness ions (calcium & magnesium) for sodium ions.

    The cation resin inside of the vessel is coated in sodium ions, as the water flows through the vessel the sodium ions exchange places with the hardness. So the hardness “sticks” to the cation resin inside of the vessel and the sodium ions continue on with the water.

    Recommended Operating Conditions for Softener Resin: 

    • Total Dissolved Solids - <2500ppm 
    • Total Suspended Solids - <10ppm
    • No Chlorine or other oxidizing agents (such as ozone) present in the source water. 

    PVC Threaded and Glue Fittings

    PVC(Polyvinyl chloride) fittings are used to connect sections of pipes or tubes, adapt to different sizes or shapes, and controlling the flow of water. There are two predominant types of PVC fittings namely PVC Glue Fittings and PVC Threaded Fittings. The difference between the two is that PVC Glue Fittings result in permanent joints and PVC Threaded Fittings are semi-permanent and can be replaced. PVC Glue fittings are joined with primer and cement- a chemical solvent that melts the surface of the PVC and then quickly re-hardens to fuse the pieces together. This results in an airtight, leak-proof bond similar to what you get with welding metal. An example of such a fitting is a PVC Glue Reducing Socket which is used to join together two pieces of PVC pipes with different diameters. Another example would be a  90 Degree Elbow which is used to connect two pipes of the same diameter at an angle of 90 degrees.PVC Threaded fittings utilise a simple threaded connection whereby replaceable 'male threaded' are screwed into 'female threaded'.Male threads have a thread on the outside of the fitting and female threads have a thread on the inside. When you thread the fitting in, it compresses against the other threads.PTFE tape is used to thread these together and the proper way to assemble threaded fittings is to finger tighten, then add one to two turns but no more. An example of a threaded fitting is a Reducing Nipple Male Threaded which is used to connect between two female threads of different diameters.
